Location & Transport

Rata Park Rest Home is situated in rural Winton 3km from Winton township and is situated on 4 acres of farmland. With a 5-seater van, 24-seater bus and wheelchair van of our own, Winton town and all its amenities are never out of reach.

Accommodation

Rata Park Rest Home has 20 beds consisting of 4 shared rooms for couples and 12 single-occupant rooms. Rooms are able to be self-furnished or come furnished. All rooms do have a hospital high/low bed available to aid in mobility if required. Some of our residents have chosen to have only their own furniture and ornaments in their room. Residents rooms are their own to decorate as they wish.

We are happy for you to have a small bar fridge in your room if you wish to keep personal food and drink. Residents may keep their alcohol in their own room or in the managers locked cupboard.

Wifi & Phones

WiFi is available in the home and a portable phone is available, residents may get a phone line put in to their own room if they wish.

Communal Areas

We have two areas of lounge with comfortable chairs, TV and radio available in both areas as well as many quite places for friends and family to talk with our residents and their family.

Outings & Appointments

We have a very active outings calendar, we travel all about Southland in our 24-seater bus. Alice is our Activities Co-Ordinator she is passionate about providing outings, entertainment with residents so that outings accommodate their interests. We have regular visits from hairdressers, religious and spiritual advisors, and podiatrists. All other providers can be accessed as needed or in Winton township.

We have friends and families of Rata Park Rest Home who visit as they want and help support residents and staff during outings and special occasions at our home.

Meals

Breakfast 08.30 – Porridge, cereal, toast, tea/coffee Morning tea – scone or similar with tea/coffee Lunch 12.30 – Meat and 3 veg, dessert (hot or cold), cold or hot drink. Afternoon tea – sweet biscuit tea/coffee Evening Meal – 17.30 Soup and toast with a light meal such as savouries or sandwiches etc, plus a cold or hot drink. Supper – Cheese and crackers tea/coffee/milo Staff are always available to make a snack and some residents keep special snacks in our kitchen. We are happy for you to have a small bar fridge in your room if you wish to keep personal food and drink.

Staff

We have Registered Nurses, Care Givers (full and part time), a full time cook, all staff help with cleaning as part of their job, part time activities co-coordinator, part time gardener and Darren also helps with the handyman chores.

Pets & Farm Animals

New animals are welcomed if house trained and up to date on all vaccinations. Residents animals are cared for at the cost of the resident who owns the animal. Permission for a new animal must be granted by the existing residents and home management.

We have a number of pets and animals including an aviary, a large fish tank, two turtles in an indoor habitat, sheep and lambs (during the lambing season), an American miniature horse, two dogs, and a pet goat called Sam. We welcome additions to this collection of animals.

Our property is semi-secure to reduce the dangers to wandering residents and our animals from the nearby road.
